Shintaido North East – Kangeiko 2011

February 26, 2011

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 12:00 am, repeating until February 27, 2011

Abiding Glory
Please plan to join us for our annual winter retreat in New England.

Master Instructor Michael Thompson will lead us in study of the Shintaido bokutoh curriculum (kyukajo).

Aoki-sensei writes that Shintaido “begins and culminates” with two basic techniques: Eiko and Tenshingoso. Born of bokutoh practice, the fundamental movement initially conceived as Eiko no ken (sword of glory) was later simply called Eiko or “glory” because of the universal nature of the Shintaido program. According to Aoki-sensei, the sword pointed toward heaven symbolizes love of God and the sword pointed forward represents love of man – and “pointing to heaven or pointing to the horizon amounts to the same thing.” He continues: “Regardless of one’s individual faith, Shintaido fosters an attitude of devotion or respect for that which is greater than we are as presently constituted…. It makes this attitude a part of daily life, and the underlying truth of our existence.” In Abiding Glory we aim to maintain the sincere intentionality and openness we strive for in keiko throughout the entirety of our everyday living.
